Ninety years ago, Avatar Aang saved the world from destruction and ended the greatest war in history. He brought about a new era of peace and unity. After this great feat, many wayward refugees and spiritualists from around the world came to study under Avatar Aang’s tutelage. His disciples were not abundant but those who did follow him were very patient. Some of them were even capable of learning Airbending from their master. Exploration of the mountains surrounding the Southern Air Temple revealed a scarce handful of surviving lemurs and bison. It took time and patience to get them to trust humans again, but in time, they once again became a part of Air Nomad life. The new generation of Air Nomads was small but they believed very strongly in the teachings of Avatar Aang.
In the Fire Nation, Firelord Zuko and Firelady Mai worked tirelessly to restore the honour of the Fire Nation. He kept a reasonable amount of military power but converted much of the war effort into helping to rebuild what had been destroyed overseas. The colonies were handed over to their rightful land owners, some fire nation colony citizens returned to their home nation while others remained in the newly reclaimed towns, changing citizenships. The history books were all amended to reflect the various truths about the war. The change was gradual in some ways but overall the world was happy to have things settled.
The efforts to help recuperate the Earth Kingdom and Southern Water Tribe went well. In the Earth Kingdom, a new Earth King was named and the Dai Li was re-founded by an ex member. The secret police were renamed the Bai Li to ease some of the unrest in the population that was the result of the previous name. Most refugees chose to remain in Ba Sing Se, though some did begin the long travel back to the homes they once knew. However, everyone pitched in to help rebuild the towns and cities throughout the kingdom.
In the Southern Water Tribe, the effort to rebuild their civilization back up from the one tiny village was much more difficult. Even though the men had returned, their numbers were still few and the other nations could only spare so many to aid them. The damage to the Earth Kingdom had been extensive and ranged across the entire continent. Therefore, the bulk of the rebuilding effort was focused there.
Today, the efforts to right the world and reclaim the Fire Nation’s honour have gone wonderfully. The major construction is done and all that’s left is the healing power of time. The world is at peace and most of the dust has settled. Firelord Zuma and Firelady Lian are strict but fair leaders with promising children and grandchildren to take their place should old age or illness bring about a new ruler. Monk Guari oversees the Southern Air Temple and others are branching out to re-inhabit the other temples. Chief Mokkai is overseeing the growing population of the Southern Water Tribe. Though they are still living in a small village, it is much larger and more bustling that it was ninety years ago. Chief Inakku of the Northern Water Tribe is struggling between traditionalism and more modern mindsets. Earth King Chan is doing very well for such a young king. He leads with his heart and listens well to his advisers. Overall, the world is a pleasant place to live once more, without fear of war or occupation, without a desperate search for hope, without the dark cloud of war threatening the world, the people live in an era of peace. And a new Avatar is about to be named.
